Use the collapsible menus below.
Small Town Fall
Small Town Fall:
Held mid September to late October, this 30-40 minute virtual tour takes you and your students to historic Cooperstown NY. See the leaves falling and the beautiful decorations villagers use to welcome cooler weather. Visit the lake front and view the mountainsides aflame with turning foliage. Walk the main street past the National Baseball Hall of Fame to the quaint main intersection of town.
Additional Topics During Your Walk
Primary Grades:
Younger grades (K-2) see the variety of squash and pumpkins, fall flowers, apples trees, corn stalks, nut-bearing trees (oak, chestnut, hickory), and compare the leaves of different trees. Additional emphasis is given to the topics of town population, age and historical relevance of various locations, local traditions and how different areas of the country celebrate Fall.
Teachers are provided with pre-tour activities to do with their students. Activities focus on prediction and compare/contrast.
Intermediate through High School:
Tours for older students can include one or more of the following themes.
Literary History: visit the grave of James Fenimore Cooper, his statue, and be taken to landmarks that are settings in his novels.
Found Poetry: pre and post activities guide students to create poetry about Fall, emphasizing the writing process and using sensory details.
American History: Discussion of the American Revolution and the French and Indian War.
Research Skills: Your guide will take you on a tour of Cooperstown, but your students won't know where the guide is. Through note-taking and questioning, students will then research online to determine where they went. (It's a riot!) Special attention is given to asking complex higher order questions.
Spooky Stuff: As with most older towns, Cooperstown is no stranger to the paranormal, your guide add haunted locations to your field trip.
Price: $75 for each 30-40 minute session.
No more than 60 students per session. We ask that all teachers be present to help monitor and assist students.

Springtime in the Forest
Springtime in the Forest:
Held late April through May, this 30-40 minute virtual tour takes you and your students for a walk the woods along the Susquehanna River in Upstate New York as Springtime begins. See what vegetation is changing and learn about edible wild plants. Catch a glimpse of wildlife such as chipmunks, white tail deer, turkey, grouse, and eagles. Special attention is paid to the life cycle, from how last year's leaves are turned into soil by decomposers and the weather cycle, to how plants and animals are preparing for the warmer months.
